Piedmont 8th grader scores at ChessLike the Olympics, the US Chess Federation's SuperNational Chess Tournament takes place only once every four years. This year, Piedmont 8th grader Adharsh Rajagopal won the 6th place trophy in the K 12 Under 1900 category at the tournament held at the Gaylord Opryland May 12-14th. He is the only NC player to rank in the top 15 ( K12 UNDER 1900 ). The tournament featured international chess celebrity Gary Kasparov.
At Piedmont, Adharsh is known as an excellent student who uses his logic and grit to excel in academics as well as chess. Throughout the Supernationals VI tournament in Nashville, TN, Adharsh played a total of 7 games, won 4 of them and drew 3. He secured a total of 5.5 points out of 7 while the first place winner secured 6 points. His rating went up by 60 points. Piedmont and his family are all are proud of his achievement at the national level.
