A Charlotte celebrity and American leader visited Piedmont today to share his leadership and business expertise with our 8th grade students. Many were too young to recognize a celebrity in their midst, but some of us are old enough to remember when SouthPark mall was farm land and Charlotte was so small today's residents would hardly recognize.
And for us, we remember that Hugh McColl was the biggest reason for the boom of Charlotte that turned it into the bustling big city it is today. His decision as CEO of NationsBank to move headquarters to his hometown led to Charlotte's development into one of the top banking centers today.
Thanks to Mr. Reddig for bringing him in. Getting his advice in person was invaluable to his students.
NationsBank became Bank of America and today is Wells Fargo. Many of our Piedmont parents are Charlotte residents because their careers brought them here, and many of those careers have direct ties to the industry McColl fostered here. If you head into the tallest building in the city you will see a museum full of Hugh McColl memorabilia in the lobby so head to the Wells Fargo Museum next time your're uptown and you can learn more.

She'll be happy to brag about Piedmont's teachers and students any chance she gets! Please note this blog has only just begun and we have so much to show off! Come back again soon!
