As I walk by our students' collaborative reproductions of some of the world's most famous works of art, I am struck by the metaphor: That's how we are. Each one of us contributes a piece of what we do well and in doing so we create something more magnificent than any of us could do alone. Look at any of these squares alone and you have a pretty good piece of middle school art, but put them together and it is breathtaking. Any of us alone are pretty good, pretty darn good usually, but put us together and we are what makes Piedmont magical. Here is Piedmont Alum ad my former seventh grade student Lia Beresford searching for herself in her 8th grade class photo hanging in our hallway. Why do 30 year olds come back to visit us twenty years later? Because of the magic we make by bringing the best of what we are every day to these students. Thank you for using your strengths to make us all we are. There is nowhere else like us and each one of us makes this school what it is.
Today Ms. Barone was arrested! No, it was not for stealing cookie dough (although we all know how much she loves it!) She is taking part in a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Please watch the video and click here to help her make bail! Ms. Barone's lawyers have released her official statement:
"Believe it or not, I'm going to jail and I need your help. While it's not a real jail, it's even more important as I'm raising bail to help children and adults with muscle disease in my community who are supported by the vital work of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). I might not be able to rely on good behavior to get out so that's why I need your help - I need you to donate to my bail!" More at http://bit.ly.com/jailbirdbarone What a whirlwind start to 2014-2015! Just few of the exciting and beautiful moments of the start of another great school year are captured below: Even before students arrived, teachers and staff were readying the school with fresh looks for their boards, reading nooks and hallways. Even Pete E. Pirate got a fancy new bow: Do you have a TEDtype talk in you? Advice for teachers, students, parents, the world? We've got a new site http://piedmonttalks.weebly.com/ and I will come film you if you want to be on the faculty staff page -just contact me http://piedmonttalks.weebly.com/faculty-talks.html

Author"Celebrating Piedmont" logs only a small fraction of the learning magic the teachers of CMS' Piedmont Middle School, an IB World School. create daily. In that sense, it is authored by all the staff and students of Piedmont. It is curated by Ms. Gurthie who can be reached at the icons above. She'll be happy to brag about Piedmont's teachers and students any chance she gets! Please note this blog has only just begun and we have so much to show off! Come back again soon! |
