a quick look at Piedmont for Prospective students
On prospective student day, Piedmont students and staff try to give visitors a hint of all that's on offer at our school. Of course you can't squeeze three years of the best of a Piedmont-style IB Middle years program into one afternoon, but that doesn't stop us from trying!
Thanks to all who came out to see us and if you couldn't make it, check the video above and these images of students and staff sharing just a bit of what makes a Piedmont education so special:

Piedmont's team Finishes 7th overall, Takes 1st place in 3 EventsEven prior competition, we were proud of Mr. Ciambrone and the Piedmont Science Olympiad team. Fellow Piedmont students and staff sent them off to Wright State University with a parade to celebrate and now that they're back, we still couldn't be prouder of their 7th place national finish. The Science Olympiad National Tournament consists of multiple science tasks. Piedmont Crimebusters, Dynamic Planet, and Hovercraft teams each scored 1st in the nation -and the Food Science team placed 2nd. It's such a pleasure to watch these students work and work hard they did, not just at the tournaments, but at practices and at home, too! After their steller sciencing was done, the team found time to relax at Kings Island before heading back home with all their medals. from the official Press release: Piedmont IB Middle school from Charlotte was one of the top US Middle schools to compete and place in the top ten category at the prestigious 2017 Science Olympiad National Tournament held at Wright State University, Dayton, OH on May 19th – 20th. The highly talented team won 8 medals which include 3 Golds and 1 Silver medal in STEM subjects such as Hovercraft, Dynamic Planet, Crime busters and Food science to name a few out of 23 subjects. After placing first at both the Regional Tournament held at UNC Charlotte on March 11th and the State Tournament held at NC State university, Raleigh, on April 23rd, Piedmont IB middle school advanced to represent North Carolina at the National Tournament and placed 7th overall. This year, Piedmont 8th grader Adharsh Rajagopal won the 6th place trophy in the K 12 Under 1900 category at the tournament held at the Gaylord Opryland May 12-14th. He is the only NC player to rank in the top 15 ( K12 UNDER 1900 ). The tournament featured international chess celebrity Gary Kasparov.
At Piedmont, Adharsh is known as an excellent student who uses his logic and grit to excel in academics as well as chess. Throughout the Supernationals VI tournament in Nashville, TN, Adharsh played a total of 7 games, won 4 of them and drew 3. He secured a total of 5.5 points out of 7 while the first place winner secured 6 points. His rating went up by 60 points. Piedmont and his family are all are proud of his achievement at the national level. Piedmont alumna Joanna Mountain presented Piedmont with a copy of her new book. As a DNA scientist who works for 23andMe, she was an expert contributor on the team for Ariana Killoran's The One and Only Me: A Book about Genes. Ms. Newburger is checking it into our library and it will be available soon for checkout (we're renovating right now!) If you can't wait, (genetic testing is a hot Mother's Day gift this year) the book is sold at bookstores nationwide from Amazon to Walmart or your independent bookseller. We're always proud to hear what our alums are doing with their Piedmont education. Keep us informed and we'll see you in the future! Did you know Ms. Barone is working on her doctorate? Joyce Tice and family members surprised her during this morning's faculty meeting to present her with a Horace Mann Scholarship toward her PhD!
Ms. Tice said the decision was unanimous and that she hopes those of us at Piedmont appreciated Ms. Barone as much as they did at Horace Mann and CMS and you can here by the "awws" and applause in the video that we certainly do! Congratulations, Ms. Barone. What a great surprise for our principal Teacher Appreciation Week!
Here are two clips of Ms. Tice explaining why Ms. Barone was unanimously chosen as deserving the scholarship and actually presenting the award:
