If you're wondering why Piedmont's Lego Team is featured on our district homepage above, here's the news of their win from the press release: "The LEGO League Robotics team from Piedmont Middle School competed at the Phillip O. Berry school state-qualifier tournament, facing 21 other area schools in challenges such as Research Project presentation, Core Values knowledge and demonstration, Robot Programming and Design assessments, and the Robot Performance challenge - a 2 1/2 minute obstacle course where robots perform autonomous tasks and earn points for missions completed successfully. The Piedmont school team won 1st place for robot performance with a top score that was nearly double their closest competitor. They also received the Champions Award which goes to the team that demonstrates the best all around performance in every event. They will move on to the State Tournament in Greensboro in January. Piedmont's Robotics team consists of 6th - 8th graders and is led by parent coaches. They have been practicing and working together 3 times a week since the August. They have also been doing extra research on issues such as time management. Here they are with a guest expert from WBTV Raycom media Regional Chief Engineer Michael Gurthie, who volunteered his time with the team for an expert interview. Good luck, team!
