Here are a few photos of student active learning throughout Piedmont. I don't remember having so much variety and choice in my day!
Picture
Check out this magical world and cute math road dragon from Ms. Delery's class. I never got to use graph paper like this in math!
Picture
Based on her unique costume, it looks like they are cleaning up from something I'd like to have attended!
Picture
Drama students performing their self-written and self-staged productions. Small on props, big on effect!
Picture
Just another language arts day for the engineers and builders at Piedmont.
Picture
Mr. Egnot's students get to build industrial revolution inventions in class then deliver a sales pitch to their classmates. All I got to do in social studies was memorize each president's nickname : (
Picture
Mr. Parkins mediates this live action battle. Note the use of BYOT in the fight- that's a civil war image on her phone!
Picture
"Judge" Frilot presides over the trial in Mr. George's room.
Picture
Who says active learning doesn't mean you can't also chill in the reading nook?
Picture
7th grade students get to make use of the sunny curved alcove overlooking the courtyard as they practice their language arts assignment.
Picture
History Day winner Brianna takes down her first place project for transport to the next phase of the competition (with a little help from her brother)
Picture
That blur you see in the background is a sixth grader trying to make deadline for the "Create an App" contest! The foreground is the balsa wood bridge they re building. Building apps in language class and bridges in math class, when will the authentic learning ever stop? At Piedmont, the answer is never!
Picture
Honors art students take a field trip to the hallway gallery to view and appreciate the work of their fellow Piedmont Kandinsky-s.
Picture
These boys are focused on creating the bookmarks for the English project with Ms. Frilot's guest speakers!
Picture
Don't worry, that black eye is a fake for this student's role in Mr. Milligan's mock trial!
Picture
Students in Ms. Madan's Spanish class say you can never have too many devices out when it's time to plan the project!
Picture
Even when the wifi fails yet again, these students can keep a sense of humor about them and move on!
Picture
Ms. Lyttle's students hanging T-shirts made by their classmates for their novel project.
Picture
Students in Ms. Gormans and Suckstorff's math club love STEM by turning themselves into a giant K'nex birthday present!
Picture
Ms. Delaney beams with pride while reading in the papers about our famous alumni off to play in NCAA- Go Jeremy, Aerris, and Akil!
Picture
This sixth graer knows how to bring Greek mythology into the 21st century for Mr. Davis' class. Check out Poseidon!
Picture
Sixth graders make decorations for the "100 Stems" party in honor of learning 100 prefixes, roots, and stems that give them such wonderful vocabularies!
Picture
Is your classmate absent? No problem, you can still rehearse the scene via video conference as these students are doing in Ms. Mcleod's class with their BYOT device!
Picture
Mr. Miller's students know he cares for them as they work on building their science models.
Picture
Students help each other tie on their armbands for a classroom simulation designed by Mr. Joyce.

"Celebrating Piedmont" logs only a small fraction of the learning magic the teachers of CMS' Piedmont Middle School, an IB World School. create daily. In that sense, it is authored by all the staff and students of Piedmont.  It is curated by Ms. Gurthie who can be reached at the icons above. She'll be happy to brag about Piedmont's teachers and students any chance she gets!  Please note this blog has only just begun and we have so much to show off! Come back again soon!
