It makes sense that our stellar Piedmont sports programs lead many of our Piedmont IB students go on to athletic glory in high school, college and professionally. We are so proud of all of them. Here are just a few who have kept in touch with their coaches or come back to share their successes with us.
The impetus for this post was when Panthers Cheerleader Jasmine Neely came back to through her job with NASCAR to teach our 7th grade STEM lesson. In our recent Piedmont alumni we now have a Brooklyn Nets cheerleader, an Atlanta Falcons cheerleader (Elyse Bailey) and a Green Bay Packer player! And it goes both ways, because some of our former Piedmont players also wish good luck to their old Pirate teams like in this video former Piedmont Pirates playing Division 1 football -Kendall Coles, Thomas Gordon and Jeremiah Hall-they made to wish our middle school team good luck. Of course many of our students start their glory here like Zoe, but no matter when, once a pirate, always a pirate so see more of our alum here: Darius Lockhart Pro Wrestler featured on WWE Monday Night Raw. Our Science Olympiad team just returned from the national competition where they took 6th place! "We are extremely proud of all the competitors! 6th in the nation is amazingly difficult yet we have a young but mighty team and their passion for rigorous STEM is worthy of celebrating!" says coach Corina Mota. Coach and science teacher Mr Ciambrone notes, "This is the 2nd best result ever for our team and the 4th time we placed in the top 10 at Nationals! Extra special out to all of our coaches especially Ms. Mota, Mr. Ciambrone and Ms. Burrell. Congratulations Science Olympiad. We are so proud of you!" Piedmont! You Know! Ms Gurthie noted that in addition to being brilliant young scientists, the group is also a well dressed bunch! What talent and creativity all around!
Piedmont's media center and field have been postively prismatic this week as students created giant rectangular prisms for math class.
Thanks to 6th grader Rachel for being the on-the-spot news anchor for the Facebook Live video of the event.
furry facULty fAmPiedmont PTSA inadvertently started an email beef when they requested staff pet photos for an upcoming book fair display. Mr Reddig set off the “chain of madness” and soon each staff member was trying to prove that their pet was the cutest of all. Which one truly is the cutest pet? You’ll have to decide for yourself. Be sure to visit the book fair to find out which Pirate pet belongs to your teacher! Whether attending a wedding in formal attire or casually doing chores at home, our Pirate pets are always helpful and good-looking, as the above dogs illustrate! The addition of cute props is making this a tough decision! (Some staff tried to sneak their children and boyfriends into the contest) Cats V Dogs: it’s too hard to choose! (maybe go with the fish?) Pirate parents are a sporty bunch so like to put their pets in jerseys as you see below.
Ms Winegardner students had the privilege of working with a UNC Charlotte clarinet professor and a guest composer today. Students learn how to use the garage band app on an iPad to create modern radio dramas.
The 8th grade students recorded the script and design their own sound effects using the latest filters and technologies. Thank you so much to Mrs. Winegardner into the UNC Charlotte out reach for helping the students have this unique musical creative experience!

In that sense, it is authored by all the staff and students of Piedmont. It is curated by Ms. Gurthie who can be reached at the icons above. She'll be happy to brag about Piedmont's teachers and students any chance she gets! Please note this blog has only just begun and we have so much to show off! Come back again soon! |
