PieDMONT TEAMS Compete AT OM REGIONALS
The "Iits Time OMer" team pretended to be time travelers looking to discover the inspiration for great works of art. The travelers went back and forth in time to inspire two classical artists and a team-created artist from our future. telling how the three works of art positively impact the world.
Both teams have met regularly since October to write and practice a completely original 7 minute skit for the event. They even made their own props. In additon to their original performances, both teams also scored highly on the spontaneous part of the competion. Congratulations to this creative bunch and to their coaches Paul Reali and Monique Dedaux!

In the space of an hour, just minutes in each class, this is a snippet of what was going on. From quiet rooms with zen like atmosphere, to rooms buzzing with excitement, from test prep tips to virtual field trips to Florence, from an exercises in expanding one's individual perception inspired by Dead Poet's society to EOG fact reviews If I had to choose a word to describe sixth grade, I'd say "amazeballs" is about right. Piedmont IB 1st in State! Piedmont Middle School's Science Olympiad team won first place at the state competition on Wednesday. Students competed in 24 events ranging from test events about Fossils, lab events like Crime Busters, to engineering events such as Elastic Launch Glider. Faculty members Heidi Phillips, Robert Egnot, and Nicholas Ciambrone as well as parent and community volunteers coached the students as they worked all year on their problems, some of which involve college level science. Coach Phillips says " I am in awe of the effort that I see every Saturday, before school, and after school that keeps this team as successful as it is. Everyone in this program deserves recognition for the success earned this past Saturday. It was truly a team effort." Scores were announced to cheers and students joyfully accepted their medals and 1st place trophy on the NC State University stage. They look forward to traveling to Wisconsin to compete at the National Science Olympiad in May. They kept coming into my office to show off their designs. Their pride was infectious. Every student should have the joy of innovating in school. The media center makerspace has become a hub of creation, but it's not just the Makerspace where the magic happens, its in all the classrooms and in the hallways too and that makes Piedmont extra commendable. So thank you for taking the time to let your students experiment and try out and create. Thank you for dealing with their messes and talking them through their frustrations. From art to language to music to math; From science to healthy kids our students have a chance to create and innovate and that's why they smile so wide. Related Posts:
